Volkswagen India has revealed its plans of launching the Polo hatchback in the first half of 2010. At a recent event, Neeraj Garg, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “Indian automotive market holds a special position in our strategy and going forward we will launch the Polo hatchback by early 2010.”
Test runs have already started for the Polo at company’s Chakan plant near Pune and this mass-market product will be made available to the buyers once the final alterations are done based on test results.
The Polo has also been spotted testing on Mumbai roads, indicating the car is on the final phase of evaluations.
VW India has registered substantial growth in sales as compared to last year and it hopes to take the numbers to 3000 units for the current year as compared to 1566 units in 2008.
The company is also expecting its mass-market product, the Polo hatchback to help boost their sales figures combined with a Polo sedan which is slated to hit Indian roads in the second half of 2010.
VW India had introduced their first offering, the Passat in September 2007, followed by Jetta in July 2008 and now their first hatchback Polo is scheduled to be out by early 2010.
