F2: Brands Hatch race calamity ridden
Henry Surtees dies in tragic accident; Armaan finishes 10th
The Formula 2 round at Brands Hatch was marred by tragedy. Race 2 was red flagged after an accident at Sheene Corner. Henry Surtees (pictured below), son of 1964 world champion John Surtees, was struck on the head by a wheel and tyre that came of Jack Clarke’s car, after Clarke spun into the wall on exiting Westfield Bend. Surtees was taken to the Royal London hospital, where he was treated. However, he succumbed to head injuries and was confirmed dead later that evening. Surtees had taken his first podium of the season with a third place in race 1 on Saturday.

Race 2 on Sunday saw Armaan Ebrahim finish 10th, just three weeks after his accident at Spa, Belgium. Armaan had qualified in 22nd position, but some quick overtaking meant he rose up the order. Armaan, failed to finish the Race 1 on Saturday, after he was taken out of the race by Alex Brundle.

The next F2 round will be held at Donington Park on August 15-16.
