    World Car of the Year 2020: Top 3 finalists announced

    The list of finalists for the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) 2020 award have been further narrowed to the top 3 cars in each category.

    Starting with the coveted 2020 World Car of the Year category, the Mazda 3, Mazda CX-30 and Kia Telluride close out the top three spots. This means the models dropped from the list include the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mercedes-Benz GLB, Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Soul EV and Volkswagen T-Cross.

    The cars that made it to the top three in the 2020 World Urban Car award category are the Kia Soul EV, the Mini Cooper SE and the Volkswagen T-Cross.

    Coming to the World Luxury Car category, two of the top three cars are Porsches. The finalists are the Porsche 911, Porsche Taycan and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

    The 2020 World Performance Car category is solely dominated by a single carmaker – Porsche. The finalists in this category include the Porsche 718 Spyder/Cayman GT4, Porsche 911 and Porsche Taycan.

    Lastly, the finalists in the 2020 World Car Design of the Year award comprise of the Mazda 3, Porsche Taycan and Peugeot 208.

    The full list of finalists was only recently announced at Auto Expo 2020. These finalists were picked by the 86-member strong WCOTY global jury, among which were Autocar India’s editor Hormazd Sorabjee, and Renuka Kirpalani, executive editor, the Autocar Show.

    This list of the 2020 WCOTY top three finalists was originally supposed to be announced at the now-cancelled Geneva motor show. The winners of each category will be announced on April 8, 2020 at the upcoming New York auto show.
