Volvo to expand XC40 line-up in India

    Volvo XC40 Inscription.

Last week, when Volvo launched its highly-awaited baby SUV, the XC40, some were pleasantly surprised by its introductory Rs 39.9 lakh price tag, while some found it a tad too pricey. If you were among the latter, here's some news - Volvo will soon add a base Momentum trim, along with a range-topping Inscription variant to the XC40 line-up.

In the R-Design trim that's on sale right now, the XC40's feature list includes 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless mobile phone charging, a 750-watt 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Volvo's 9.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, and heated front and rear seats. With the exception of 18-inch alloys (in a different design) and the infotainment system, the base Momentum variant of the XC40 misses out on all the above mentioned features. It also gets standard cruise control, instead of the R-Design's adaptive cruise control.

In addition to the all that's on offer with the R-Design, the Inscription variant will get a different design for the grille, six-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels, subtle chrome elements for the exterior, driftwood inlays for the interior, electrically-foldable rear seat headrests, a crystal gear knob and a charging point in the boot.

All variants get the same level of safety equipment, so the XC40 comes as standard with lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, emergency braking, ESP, traction control, hill descent control and eight airbags.

The only powertrain on offer with the XC40 is the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel (D4) engine, which sends 190hp and 400Nm of torque to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Expect the Momentum to be priced closer to the Rs 36 lakh mark, with the XC40 Inscription slotting in above the R-Design at an expected price of Rs 45 lakh. Bookings are already underway for both Momentum and Inscription variants, with the booking amount being set at Rs 2 lakh and deliveries expected to begin towards the end of August.

    All prices ex-showroom.
