Volkswagen has introduced a triple-screen setup in its newest sedan for China, the new-gen Magotan. The Magotan is essentially Volkswagen’s version of the current-gen Skoda Superb and the Volkswagen Passat, which are currently on sale in Europe and a few other markets. However, both the Superb and the Passat make do with two screens. The Magotan is also the only sedan derivative of the Passat; Skoda Superb gets a sedan and wagon bodystyle, but the Passat is sold as a wagon only.

    2. Gets two powertrain options

Triple screens now in the mass market

Following the likes of top-spec Porsche and Mercedes-Benz models, Volkswagen has introduced the triple-screen setup on the Magotan, making it the first VW sedan to get this feature. This setup is also seen on the latest-gen Tiguan as well as the upcoming Tayron SUV. While the Magotan sedan is a China-only model, the Tayron will be sold in multiple markets globally including India, making the triple-screen setup a more common feature.

The infotainment display incorporates a backlit slider controller at the bottom, similar to the Tiguan, and all three screens will likely be running VW’s latest MIB4 digital interface.

While the sedan space is slowly diminishing globally, China still remains a strong market for the body style. The Magotan shares its underpinnings and powertrains with the current-gen Passat and Superb, making it cost-effective for the Group.

Power comes from either a 1.5-litre or a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, with multiple power outputs. The Magotan rivals the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

While the Magotan will not make it to India, the triple-screen setup will likely be seen on the India-bound Tayron SUV in the future. Also, the Skoda Superb sedan and the new Octavia are being readied for India re-introductions in the coming months. Volkswagen India has also introduced sporty versions of the Taigun and the Virtus in India that will go on sale soon.
