Land Rover has introduced a locally manufactured version of the Range Rover Velar in India, priced at Rs 72.47 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The locally-produced Velar is available in a single ‘R-Dynamic S’ variant with two engine options for buyers to choose from.

Earlier, the CBU Velar’s R Dynamic S variant was priced at Rs 88.88 lakh (ex-showroom, India). This marks a Rs 16.41 lakh price drop for the locally manufactured version which also features more equipment as standard like a sliding panoramic roof, All Terrain Progress Control, Terrain Response 2, 20-inch alloys, full extended leather upgrade for the interior, 360-degree parking aid, park assist, four-zone climate control and configurable ambient interior lighting. All these features were optional extras on the CBU version.

The locally-produced Velar's features include a Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with Wi-Fi and Pro services, a 380W Meridian sound system, an activity key, premium leather upholstery, cabin air ionization, powered tailgate, adaptive dynamics, 20-inch alloys with a full-size spare, a R-Dynamic exterior pack and LED headlights with LED DRLs.

In terms of engines, the Velar gets a 2.0-litre petrol unit that produces 250hp at 5,500rpm and 365Nm of torque at 1,500rpm. The diesel option is a 2.0-litre unit that puts out 179hp at 4,000rpm and 430Nm of torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm. Both engines send power to all four wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Land Rover has also decided to discontinue all other variants of the Velar. Bookings for the locally produced Velar are now open, with deliveries set to begin in early May 2019. In India, the Range Rover Velar range rivals other luxury SUVs like the Jaguar F-Pace, the Mercedes GLE Coupe and the BMW X6.
