Every new hatchback on discount this festive season

The 2018 festive season will be no different from any that has gone before. Car manufacturers are looking at boosting sales figures by offering a large number of discounts, special offers and benefits on their offerings. Before you buy your next hatchback, take a look at the kinds of benefits you can avail during this time.

    Volkswagen Polo petrol

    Save up to Rs 90,000
The base Polo hatchback (in Trendline trim) can now be had at just Rs 4.99 lakh, down from its original ex-showroom price of 5.55 lakh. Volkswagen is also offering the mid-spec Comfortline and Highline trims at a special discounted price of Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 6.99 lakh, respectively (down from Rs 6.25 lakh and Rs 7.15 lakh). In addition, there is also an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000 and corporate discounts worth 5,000 on offer with the two mid-spec variants. The petrol Polo is slow-seller for Volkswagen; one of the main reasons is the under-powered 76hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder motor. Rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ford Figo.

    Mahindra KUV100 NXT

    Save up to Rs 75,000
Mahindra’s smallest product in the Indian market is unique in its segment, as it comes with five-seat and six-seat configurations. It is powered by either an 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 78hp, 1.2-litre diesel, both of which are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra is currently offering discounts of Rs 20,000 on the base-spec K2 variant, Rs 26,000 on the K4 trim and Rs 43,000 on the K6+ and K8 variants, in addition to a Rs 29,000 exchange offer. Corporate discounts worth Rs 4,000 are also on offer on the Maruti Suzuki Ignis rival.

    Hyundai Grand i10

    Save up to Rs 72,000
Hyundai’s rival to the Maruti Suzuki Swift is getting a bit long in the tooth but is still one of the largest swelling models in its segment, thanks to a long list of features that comes at a competitive price. The Korean brand is offering cash discounts worth Rs 50,000 on the 75hp, 1.2-litre diesel model and Rs 40,000 on the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol model, along with an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000. Special benefits worth Rs 5,000 are also on offer specifically for government employees and doctors.

    Maruti Suzuki WagonR

    Save up to Rs 70,000
The WagonR’s tall-boy body does liberate more room on the inside than you’d expect from a car in this segment, but does have a detrimental effect on its handling dynamics. The popular hatchback comes with the same K10 engine as the Celerio and Alto K10, and has a manual and AMT option, along with a factory-fit CNG option. Maruti Suzuki dealers are now offering cash discounts up to Rs 40,000 on the standard model and the AMT trims and Rs 25,000 on the CNG variants, along with an exchange offer up to Rs 35,000.

    Hyundai Eon

    Save up to Rs 57,000
The Eon will be replaced by the Santro on October 23, which is one of the reasons why Hyundai is offering significant cash discounts worth Rs 45,000 on the hatchback. There is also a Rs 10,000 exchange bonus on offer with this Maruti Suzuki Alto rival. The Eon gets two engine options – a 56hp, 0.8-litre engine and a 69hp, 1.0-litre engine. The Eon hasn’t done all that well for Hyundai, considering its predecessor, the original Santro, was one of the best-selling cars in the country. Hyundai hopes to recapture its market share in the budget hatchback segment with the new Santro.

    Maruti Suzuki Alto 800

    Save up to Rs 55,000
While the Alto 800 is one of Maruti Suzuki’s highest selling models, the brand hopes to capitalize on the festive season by offering a rather large cash discount of up to Rs 25,000 and an exchange bonus of Rs 30,000. The alternative to the Tata Nano and the 0.8-litre versions of the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redigo gets the basics right but doesn’t offer much more than that.

    Maruti Suzuki Celerio

    Save up to Rs 55,000
The budget hatchback segment will soon see the entry of a new rival, the Hyundai Santro, which is squarely up against the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. This festive season will see dealerships offering cash discounts of Rs 35,000 (and a Rs 25,000 exchange offer) on the Celerio and its AMT-equipped counterpart.

    Maruti Suzuki Alto K10

    Save up to Rs 55,000
Known for being a peppy little urban runabout thanks to its impressive (for its class) power-to-weight ratio, the Alto K10 is currently on offer with cash discounts up to Rs 20,000 and an exchange bonus up to Rs 35,000. The 68hp, 1.0-litre engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. The model sees competition from the 1.0-litre Datsun Redigo and Renault Kwid.

    Hyundai i20, i20 Active

    Save up to Rs 50,000

Hyundai’s premium hatchback has become more desirable during this festive season with a Rs 20,000 cash discount and Rs 30,000 exchange bonus. While it isn’t as exciting to drive as its rivals and top versions are a bit on the pricey side, the i20 excels in terms of cabin space, equipment levels and stylish design. It also has a cross-hatch version in the form of the i20 Active, which also carries the same discounts. Engine options between the hatch and cross-hatch are shared, namely the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol and the 90hp, 1.4-litre diesel, though the hatchback does get the option of a CVT automatic.

    Honda Jazz

    Save up to Rs 50,000
The refreshed Jazz was launched in India quite recently. Though it was mechanically unchanged, with the same 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 100hp, 1.5-litre diesel options, the petrol-automatic combo is now available on the top-spec trim as well. Honda dealers will offer customers an exchange bonus of Rs 20,000 and free one-year insurance, besides the same offers available with the Brio. The Jazz is a is a spacious, practical alternative to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 though the fact that the new model misses out on the rear Magic seats is a point of contention.

    Maruti Suzuki Swift

    Save up to Rs 47,500
The third-gen Swift comes with the same 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol and 75hp, 1.3-litre diesel engine options, though AMT gearboxes are offered on both as an optional extra. The Honda Brio and Ford Figo competitor is quite a money maker for Maruti and now comes with a Rs 27,500 cash discount and a Rs 20,000 exchange offer. There’s a special edition for the festive season on offer as well.

    Maruti Suzuki Ignis

    Save up to Rs 45,000
Now only available with the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol motor, the Ignis is spacious, though polarizes opinion due to the way it looks. Nexa dealerships have been instructed to offer cash discounts of Rs 20,000 and a Rs 25,000 exchange bonus on the well-equipped but expensive hatchback, which rivals the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

    Honda Brio

    Save up to Rs 30,000
Honda is now offering cash discounts up to Rs 5,000 on its smallest offering in India, along with Rs 7,500 worth of Honda accessories and a corporate discount of select multi-national companies and government employees of about Rs 15,000. Honda dealers have also been authorised to offer one year insurance for free on the Maruti Suzuki Swift rival. The Brio comes with an 88hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions.

    Tata Tiago

    Save up to Rs 22,400
While Tata will soon introduce the hot-hatch version of the Tiago soon, it is offering a year’s worth of insurance for free (Rs 7,400) and an exchange offer of Rs 10,000 on its hatchback. A corporate discount is also on offer between Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000, depending on the company. The Tiago is a spacious, feature-rich hatchback that competes against the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and will see additional competition from the all-new Hyundai Santro when it arrives on October 23. It is the only car in its segment to come with the option of a diesel (a 70hp, 1.05-litre unit), along with an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine. The latter also comes with an AMT option.

    Nissan Micra

    Save up to Rs 22,000
Nissan dealers will now offer the Micra hatchback with a year’s worth of free insurance, a 3g gold coin, a Rs 15,000 exchange offer and an additional Rs 7,000 discount for government employees. The hatchback gets two engine options, each with a single transmission – the 77hp, 1.2-litre petrol motor is mated to a CVT automatic while the 64hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine comes paired to a 5-speed manual, The Micra competes against the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Honda Brio and Volkswagen Polo, but is a much slower seller in comparison.

    Maruti Suzuki Baleno

    Save up to Rs 19,000
Retailed through the premium Nexa showrooms, the Baleno is a rival to the Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20. On offer with a Rs 7,000 cash discount and Rs 7,000 corporate discount and a Rs 15,000 exchange offer, the premium hatchback is known for its fuel efficient 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines, its spacious cabin and well-kitted top-spec trim.

    Renault Kwid

    Save up to Rs 15,000
The French brand launched the updated Kwid at the beginning of August with more kit (a touchscreen infotainment system and reverse camera), minor cosmetic changes and a creep function for the AMT versions. Renault will offer a Rs 15,000 exchange bonus on buying the new Kwid, and has also thrown in a 50 percent discount on the first year of insurance. Select variants also get a four-year warranty as standard. The Kwid gets 54hp, 0.8-litre and 68hp, 1.0-litre petrol engines, with the latter also getting the option of a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Dealerships have also been instructed to offer corporate discounts on select trims and assured gifts on test driving the model.

    Datsun Redigo

    Save up to Rs 10,000
Datsun’s Renault Kwid rival is now on offer with one year insurance for free, an exchange bonus of up to Rs 10,000, three years worth of roadside assistance and a gold coin (1g for the 0.8-litre version and 2g for the 1.0-litre model). While Redigo shares its engine and transmission options with the Kwid, it loses out in terms of equipment levels.

    Ford Freestyle

    Save up to Rs 10,000
The Freestyle is more than just a jacked up Figo. It’s got the new 96hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine (the 100hp diesel carries forward from the Figo and Aspire) and the raised ride height hasn’t hampered its handling dynamics. Ford dealers are now offering a cash discount of Rs 10,000 on the cross-hatch, which rivals the Maruti Suzuki Celerio X.

Discounts vary from city to city and depend on availability. Please check with your dealer for exact discounts.
