All toll lanes to get ETC facility in the next four months

At the ongoing 58th SIAM Annual Convention in Delhi, Minister of Road and Highway Transport, Nitin Gadkari, announced that all toll lanes in India will be equipped with the FASTag Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system over the next four months. Highway users will soon be able to pay their toll electronically at all 462 toll plazas across the nation, helping to cut congestion at tolls and reduce wastage of fuel.

Recently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had announced that it will retail FASTags via Indian Oil petrol pumps across India to make electronic toll collection more accessible. As of now, FASTags can be bought at banks like SBI, ICICI, Axis, Federal and Syndicate, at Common Services Centre (CSC) near toll plazas and online via the NHAI site.

FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to make toll payments directly from a prepaid account that is linked to it. It is valid for five years and only needs to be recharged when needed.
