    Model : C-Class

The car you see in these photographs is the Mercedes-Benz Edition C, basically a limited edition run of the C-class launched to celebrate the sale of 10 million units of the car around the world. The brand has sold more than 2.3 million units of the current fourth-generation model series alone since it was unveiled globally in 2007. The Edition C is essentially a C220 CDI with some special features exclusive to this car. We got our hands on it for a quick drive.

There are no mechanical changes and power comes from a 2143cc turbo-diesel engine good for 167bhp mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Out on the street, the C-class has more than enough punch to satisfy. The delivery of torque and power is strong and the C rushes forward with good energy. And flat-out acceleration, despite this C having 34 horses less than the Mercedes-Benz C250 CDI, is strong and you can expect the 220 CDI to be only around a second or so off the more powerful 250 in a drag race. Even the power delivery is smooth and linear. It feels a tad more refined than the C250 CDI as well. The rest of the car remains the same and you get fantastic build quality, all of Merc’s safety systems and a very supple ride.

The special features in the Mercedes-Benz Edition C are an AMG styling kit, smoked headlamps and new alloy wheels. The grille also gets a unique design and there are Edition C badges on the sides. The interiors get special Alacantra and leather finish with blue contrast stitching on the seats. The dash gets silver inserts instead of wood. Priced at Rs 39.16 lakh, the Edition C is rather expensive, when you compare it to its more modern rivals from BMW and Audi.

The Mercedes C 220 CDI Edition C will have a limited production run of 500 units.
