VW Chakan plant completes five years of production

    Inaugurated in 2009, this plant was built in 17 months, a record across all VW facilities across the country.

    In a major milestone for the company, VW's Chakan plant finished five years of operation on March 31, 2014. Since inauguration, over 3.5 lakh cars have rolled out of the facility and it also serves as VW Group's headquarters in India. Inaugurated in 2009, this plant was built in 17 months, a record across all VW facilities globally. The plant employs 3,400 people and apart from the domestic market, also caters to VW's export interests. 

    Michael Mayer is new VW India director

    Volkswagen has announced a change in its top ranks. Michael Mayer, who currently holds the position of market planning of VW passenger cars, European sales division in Germany, will take up the position of brand head for VW passenger cars in India from June 1. Mayer has been with the VW Group for 20 years now.
