Volkswagen Vento to get 1.5-litre diesel and automatic gearbox

Along with the new diesel engine, VW will also launch a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox-equipped version of the Vento.

Volkswagen will launch the Vento sedan with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine which will first come to India in the Polo facelift that will hit showrooms in May 2014. While the Volkswagen Polo facelift will get the new 1.5-litre diesel engine in two states of tune, the Vento sedan will only come with the higher 104bhp version.

The big news is that along with the new engine, Volkswagen will also launch a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox-equipped version of the Vento in India.

Volkswagen introduced its hi-tech DSG gearbox on its mainstream Polo and Vento range last year but offered them only on the petrol variant.

Currently, the only diesel-automatic sedan available in that segment is the Hyundai Verna which comes with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The Volkswagen Vento 1.5-litre diesel will go on sale in the latter part of this year and the DSG-equipped version is expected to cost around Rs 1 lakh more than its manual counterpart.
