Suzuki Gixxer vs rivals: Specification comparison

Suzuki’s Indian two-wheeler arm is about to add a new 154.9cc motorcycle to their portfolio, the Gixxer. With its official launch just around the corner, we take a close look at how its specifications match up to to immediate competitors, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i, Honda CB Trigger and the also new Yamaha, the FZ-S V2.0.

A quick glance at the spec sheets reveal the Suzuki Gixxer has the largest capacity engine of them all, also producing a healthy power output of 14.6bhp at 8,000rpm. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 produces slightly more power on paper, 14.9bhp at 9,000rpm, whereas Honda’s CB Trigger produces 14bhp at 8,500rpm and the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0, 12.9bhp at 8,000rpm, its output the least of the lot.

The Suzuki Gixxer has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres, putting it at par with the Honda CB Trigger and Yamaha FZ-S V2.0. Only the Bajaj Pulsar 150 offers a higher capacity, at 15 litres.

The Suzuki Gixxer outdoes the rest when it comes to torque, producing 1.42kgm at 6,000rpm; the Pulsar 1.27kgm at 6,500rpm, CB Trigger 1.27kgm at 6,500rpm and Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 1.30kgm at 6,000rpm. All four 150cc segment bikes use a 5-speed gearbox to transfer power to their rear wheels.

The Suzuki Gixxer offers telescopic front suspension, and uses a monoshock at the rear, similar to the Honda CB Trigger. The FZ-S V2.0 comes in with an edge over the others here, thanks to fatter front telescopic suspension coupled to a rear monoshock, wider rear tyre and tubeless tyre even on the front wheel. The Bajaj Pulsar 150 uses telescopic front suspension with adjustable shock absorbers at the rear.

The Gixxer is the widest and shortest bike of the three. At 1,330mm, the Gixxer wheelbase measures the same as Yamaha’s FZ-S V2.0, 10mm longer than the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and 5mm longer than the CB Trigger. Honda’s CB Trigger offers the option of a rear disc brake; while all the other bikes only have a front disc brake.

As for the pricing, the Gixxer is priced at Rs 81,900, whereas the Bajaj Pulsar 150 costs Rs 75,055, the Honda CB Trigger costs Rs 75,600 and the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 costs Rs 87,618 (all prices on-road, Pune).
