Lexus has begun work on a lengthened version of its popular RX SUV. The Lexus RX currently rivals the likes of the Audi Q5, the Mercedes GLC and the Land Rover Discovery Sport in global markets.
While the Q5 and the GLC come with a five-seat layout, the Land Rover Discovery Sport comes with seven seats. The niche is currently unexplored by Lexus, so to take the game up against the Discover Sport, Lexus will add extra inches to the RX’s wheelbase in order to accommodate a third row of seats.
The extended-wheelbase RX series are likely to get the RX350L and the RX450hL names upon unveil sometime in 2018.
For India, Lexus will enter our market officially in March this year. The carmaker will bring in the standard wheelbase RX SUV, the ES300h sedan and the full-size LX SUV. The initial batch of Lexus models will be sold as fully-imported units and hence they will be priced on the higher side when compared to its direct rivals.
