Here is some trivia on the Rolls-Royce Dawn, one of the most expensive and indulgent convertible on the market:
1. Based on the Rolls-Royce Wraith
The Dawn is the soft-top version of the super-exclusive Wraith coupé, making it the most exclusive car in Rolls-Royce’s India line-up. However, 80 percent of its bodywork is different from the Wraith’s with the two sharing just the doors and the grille surround.
2. “Most rigid” four-seat convertible on the market
Rolls-Royce claims that as four-seat convertibles go, the Dawn tops the chart for rigidity, achieved by extra reinforcements and also the front-opening ‘coach’ doors hinged to the centre of the car.
3. Equipped with Wraith’s 6.6-litre V12 under the hood
The Dawn is powered by the same engine as the Wraith – a 6.6-litre V12 with a power and torque output of 571hp and 780Nm, respectively. The engine is supposed to propel the Wraith from 0-100kph in 4.9 seconds, all the way to a limited top speed of 250kph.
4. Quiet with the roof up and down
The luxury carmaker claims that the Dawn is the quietest convertible on the market, with cabin-noise levels at par with the Wraith’s when the roof is up. In fact, the car is a couple of decibels quieter than the Wraith across the cruising range. The roof can go up or down in just over 20 seconds at speeds up to 50kph, and the operation is completely silent, so much that Rolls has called it the ‘silent ballet’.
5. Expect it to cost a lot. Like, a lot
The Dawn is priced at Rs 6.25 crore (ex-showroom). However, it is still only the second-most expensive convertible on the market, beaten by the Phantom Drophead Coupé.
