The currently unnamed car is hinted at pointing to Volkswagen’s new design style and may become the precursor to the new Volkswagen Passat CC. The Passat CC is to go on sale internationally towards the end of the year and it is believed that the new car will be based on the concept.

From the sketches, the concept car’s design is close to the new Passat B8, but features an all-new grill running the width of the car and prominent air vents integrated into the bumper. At the back, there is a prominent boot lip that adds to the sweptback looks of the car, and dual exhausts.

Volkswagen hasn’t provided any details on the powertrain. However, it has confirmed that the CC concept is powered by a turbo petrol engine alongside two electric motors. Inspiration for the powertrain is likely to have come from the Passat GTE, which debuted in the Paris Motor Show last year.

Given the up-market push taken in the new Passat B8, Volkswagen has said that the new Passat CC will slot above the car it replaces.
