Debuting early next year at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show, the next-gen E-class is expected to bring a number of new safety and driver assistance technologies to the market. A few details have been revealed as to what sort of technologies to expect when the E-class makes its global debut.

Mercedes has said that the new E-class will be fitted with an array of sensors including ultrasonic and radar sensors, along with stereo camera all around to provide a 360 degree view. The sensors and cameras are said to work in conjunction with the company’s new software to provide assistance to drivers, while making the car safer for the occupants.

One of the systems expected to make its debut is what Mercedes refers to as the ‘Car to X’ system. It is expected to allow cars to communicate between each other and convey information regarding road hazards over a cloud-based system.

Mercedes has also said that it will offer the next-level ‘Intelligence Drive’ on the E-class. The system is supposed to allow the car to accelerate, brake and even provide steering assistance. The company also said that the new system would also regulate the car’s speed based on the car in front  and the speed limit signs posted on the road side using the sensors and cameras to alter the cruise control settings.

Another tech expected to be offered on the car is the Evasive Steering Assist that will automatically provide a steering input if the car senses an obstacle in its path, and will return the car to its original trajectory. The next-gen E-class is also expected to bring a remote steering system, like the one JLR showcased a few weeks ago, allowing the driver to park the car using his smartphone as a controller. The car is also expected to come with the ‘Pre-Safe Sound’ technology, a function that will prepare the occupant’s inner ear for the loud noise usually associated with an accident.

The new E-class is expected to go on sale internationally in the second half of 2016.
