A test-mule of the third-generation BMW X3 has been spotted undergoing testing in Germany. From what has been seen, the exterior of the new X3 is expected to be only slightly different from the current car.
The next-gen X3 will spawn from BMW's newly developed CLAR platform, potentially making it lighter, yet bigger and more spacious. In addition to this model, a long-wheelbase version, codenamed G08, is also being considered, albeit as a China-only offering. A 2018-bound X3 M, with the M3’s powerplant, is also on the cards. Also expected is a plug-in hybrid, borrowing tech from the 330e sedan, or the bigger X5 xDrive40e; details of this model are unconfirmed.
The next-gen X3 is expected to make its global debut at the Paris motor show 2016 before going on sale internationally.
