New Mahindra Scorpio variant details leaked

    New Mahindra Scorpio official teaser.

Mahindra will launch the new Scorpio on September 25th, 2014. Ahead of its launch, we have managed to get access to the official brochure from our sources. From this, we have details about the different trim levels and the amount of standard kit on offer.

The new Scorpio will be available with two diesel engine options that have been carried over from the outgoing model. Buyers can choose between a 2.5-litre, four cylinder m2DiCr engine and the more powerful 2.2-litre mHawk engine.

The 2.5-litre m2DiCr engine will power the base S2 trim, while the 2.2-litre mHawk mill will power the S4, S6, S6 Plus, S8 and the S10 trims.

The Mahindra Scorpio S2 trim comes equipped with only the basic necessities like air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, central locking and 15-inch steel wheels.

In addition to these features present on the base trim, the higher Scorpio S4 gets tilt adjustable steering wheel and bigger 17-inch steel rims.

Next is the Mahindra Scorpio S6 trim, which apart from carrying over the features of the lower trims comes with an integrated 2-DIN music system, remote central locking, sliding seats for the middle row, rear wiper and defogger. It even gets body colored door handles, wing mirrors, rear spoiler and a roof rack. Mahindra will also offer an S6 Plus trim that gets airbags for the driver and front passenger, along with the standard features of the S6 trim.

The Scorpio S8 trim additionally gets electrically adjustable wing mirrors, front fog lamps, projector headlamps, rear parking sensors, a voice assist system, silver skid plate and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The top Mahindra Scorpio S10 trim comes loaded with the most amount of kit. Apart from borrowing all the features of the lower trims, it gets kit like static bending technology-equipped projector headlamps, follow-me-home headlamps, tyre pressure warning system, speed alert system along with rain and light sensors. It even gets cruise control, steering mounted audio controls, a touchscreen infotainment system with GPS, automatic climate control and height adjustable drivers seat. Additionally, there’s chrome garnishing on the front grille and AC vents along with LED strips on the headlamps.

Only the Scorpio S2 and the top-of-the-line Scorpio S10 get Mahindra’s micro hybrid technology. Mahindra is also offering shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system as a paid option only on the S4 and S10 trims.

Since its launch, the Scorpio has been one of the highest selling Mahindra models in India. The manufacturer has equipped all the variants of its new SUV with a good amount of kit. The different trim levels suggest there will be a Scorpio available for different budgets. The top Scorpio S10 trim comes loaded with the most goodies and its standard equipment list is actually comparable to that of the XUV500.

The most distinctive bit is that one doesn’t need to go for the top trim in order to get a four-wheel-drive system as standard. Mahindra is offering a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system as a paid option even on the S4 trim. This is likely to help it gain brownie points among buyers who seek a rugged SUV without paying extra for more features.

Mahindra hasn’t revealed the prices but we expect the new Scorpio to retail for around Rs 30-50,000 more than the outgoing model.
