More power, torque for Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG

Mercedes has said that it will be carrying forward the mechanical updates from the facelifted A 45 AMG to its two siblings, the CLA 45 AMG and the GLA 45 AMG, soon. Tobias Moers, the head of AMG said that neither of the two cars would have to wait for a facelift to get the updates.

The CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG currently use the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine found in the old A 45 AMG pumping out 355bhp and 45.8kgm of torque. The updates will see this power boosted by 21bhp to 376bhp, while torque figures will rise to 48.39kgm. This refinement in power is expected to improve the 0-100kph time on both cars by as much as 0.4 seconds.

Also confirmed is that, the two models will get the revised 7-speed double-clutch automatic from the facelifted A 45 AMG. The revised gearbox gets shorter gear ratios to improve response and a mechanically locking front differential to improve handling.

The CLA45 and GLA45 AMG models currently offered in India are also expected to receive the update as both models, like all other AMG models, are imported into the country as CBUs. As for local assembly, Mercedes recently added a sixth model to its list of locally assembled models in the form of the GLA200 CDI. The car also became the first new generation front-wheel drive Mercedes to be locally assembled. Currently the list of Mercedes’ locally assembled cars consists of the GLA-class diesel, the C-class, the E-class, the S-class, the M-class and the GL-class.
