Maruti’s Manesar facility marks 25 lakh production milestone

Maruti Suzuki has announced that its Manesar manufacturing facility has crossed the 25 lakh production milestone this month. The milestone marking vehicle was a Swift ZXi that was rolled out from the Manesar B plant.

Spread over 600 acres, the Manesar facility houses three plants, A, B and C with a total annual manufacturing capacity of 800,000 units. It also houses the diesel engine plant and a suppliers park. Rajiv Gandhi, executive director (Plants) said, “The Manesar facility achieved the 25 lakh production milestone in 7 years and 8 months. This milestone would be the fastest for any car manufacturing plant in the country.” He also said that the Manesar plant had implemented several ideas from the employees with regards to productivity, cost, quality and safety.

The three Manesar plants have a high degree of automation and robotic control in the press shop, weld shop and paint shop. Other areas where manual operations are challenging and difficult are also supported by automation and robotics. Total investment on the Manesar facility has been around Rs 5100 crore.

Earlier this year, Maruti commissioned a 1mw (megawatt) mono-crystalline photovoltaic solar power setup inside the Manesar facility. It helps the facility offset CO2 emissions to the tune of over 1,200 tonnes annually. The Gurgaon and Manesar facilities have together rolled out over 1.4 crore vehicles.
