Maruti Wagon R gets past 15-lakh sales milestone

First launched in the year 2000, the Maruti Wagon R has recently crossed the milestone of 15 lakh sales in India. In the month of June this year, sales for the car stood at 17,119 units, its highest-ever monthly tally.

The Wagon R has managed to stay popular amongst the masses thanks to the peppy engine, spacious and decently equipped interior and the reliability that comes with the Maruti badge. It has also had its share of updates to keep things fresh over the years. The most recent addition to the Wagon R lineup is the Stingray variant, and now Maruti is possibly working on equipping it with the popular AMT gearbox. This move is likely to give the Stingray variant a much needed shot in the arm, since it is nowhere close to as high-selling as the regular Wagon R.

With the growing popularity of AMT-equipped cars like Maruti’s own Celerio and new Alto K10, it won’t be surprising to see the Stingray AMT cement Wagon R’s position as one of the top-selling models every single month.
