Maruti, Tata, VW see double digit growth in May 2015

    Maruti, Tata, VW see double digit growth in May 2015

    Car sales figures for the month of May 2015 saw Maruti, Tata and Volkswagen record double digit growth year-on-year, while companies like Honda and Hyundai recorded slight improvements. While these companies recorded growth, carmakers like Mahindra, Toyota and Ford saw a drop in sales over the same period. The figures are as below:

    Maruti Suzuki: India’s leading carmaker posted sales of 1,02,359 units in May, a growth of 13.03 percent from May of 2014 (90,560 units). The growth rate was however slower than in April, where the company saw a gain of 27 percent year-on-year. The sales of Swift, Ritz, Celerio and Dzire saw a drop year-on-year of 5.7 percent while sales of other cars in the line-up showed growth. The Wagon R and Alto saw the strongest sales with combined sales amounting to 35,062 units.

    Hyundai Motors: A gain of 3.4 percent year-on-year was recorded with the company selling 37,540 units as against 36,205 units in May 2014.

    Mahindra and Mahindra: The SUV makers posted a drop in sales of 6.86 percent with sales for May 2015 amounting to 18,135 units as against 19,470 units from the same period last year.

    Honda: Honda saw a gain of 0.53 percent year-on-year with sales for the month amounting to 13,431 units as against 13,362 units from May 2014.

    Toyota Kirloskar Motor: A decline of 2.7 percent in sales year-on-year was calculated. Sales for the month of May amounted to 11,511 units against the 11,831 units from last year. The new Toyota Camry sold 107 units in the month of May; a growth of 51 percent compared to the same period last year.

    Tata: Tata recorded a growth of 20.67 percent year-on-year for the month of May 2015. Total sales for the month amounted to 11,138 units as compared to 9,230 units sold last May.

    Ford: The company saw a sharp decline in sales with the sales amounting to 4,762 units — a loss of 21.92 percent when compared to last year’s 6,053 units.

    Volkswagen: VW saw a sharp rise in sales with the company recording growth of 56.83 percent year-on-year. Sales in May grew from 2,657 units last year to 4,167 units for 2015.
