Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has launched the Imperio pickup priced at Rs 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane, for the single cabin BS3 variant). The premium pickup has been developed to cater to small and medium businesses for their transportation needs.
At an investment of Rs 70 crore, the Imperio has been conceptualised and developed in-house by M&M’s engineers at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. Production of the pickup will be undertaken by the manufacturer's facility in Chakan. Mahindra may also introduce a CNG variant for the Imperio sometime in the future.
Speaking at the launch, Pravin Shah, president and chief executive (Automotive), M&M said, “In keeping with our endeavour of offering first of its kind products, we have launched the Imperio today which lays a strong foundation for an entirely new generation of pickups. Being a market leader in the segment, we have identified gaps to further consolidate our presence in the SCV segment. A result of extensive consumer insights, the Imperio reflects the changing aspirations of a commercial vehicle buyer. A true Make in India vehicle, I am confident that the product will be a game changer and go a long way in helping our customers.”
In India, the Imperio will replace Mahindra’s Genio pickup which will now only be exported to international markets.
