Land Rover Discovery Sport to get new engine

Come September, the Discovery Sport will see its existing 2.2-litre diesel engine be replaced by JLR’s new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine internationally. As with the current 2.2-litre diesel engine, the new Ingenium engines will become available in two states of tune – 148bhp and 178bhp – and be badged as TD4 150PS and TD4 180PS, respectively.

The Ingenium-powered Discovery Sport TD4 150PS will be designated as an E-Capability vehicle. It will get blue sport badging to highlight it as the most efficient vehicle in the Discovery range. It will get 18-inch wheels and low rolling resistance tyres to help improve the fuel economy and be the only car in the line-up available as a five-seater only. The other variants of the Discovery Sport will be sold with a 5+2 seating arrangement.

The 150PS car will get a six-speed manual only, whereas the 180PS models get a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox and a nine-speed speed automatic gearbox.

In addition, an HSE Black model has been added to the line-up, adding privacy glass and visual enhancements to the standard HSE spec car.

The Discovery Sport will be launched in India in August this year and is expected to be available in the top-trim HSE-spec only. Initially, the car is expected to get the 2.2-litre diesel engine in two states of tune – 187bhp and 147bhp – with the Ingenium diesel engine likely to replace it. The Discovery Sport in India will be assembled at the company’s Pune plant and is likely to be priced around Rs 42-50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
