Land Rover has released the first official pictures of the Discovery Sport's cabin. The seven-seat SUV is due to go on sale internationally at the start of next year. It will have its global debut on September 3.

These pictures show the Discovery Sport’s 5+2 seating layout arranged over three benches. The move to offer the Discovery Sport with seven seats as standard will help it take on the likes of the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The Land Rover Discovery Sport replaces the Freelander 2.

Land Rover says the Discovery's seating is "versatile", meaning the third row will likely fold forwards to increase rear load space, and could be removable altogether. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, multi-function steering wheel, keyless engine start and a central infotainment screen, which uses a different design to that seen in other Land Rover models like the Range Rover.

Power for the Discovery Sport will come from Jaguar's new range of Ingenium engines. The model will receive its public debut at the Paris motor show 2014 in October.
