    Lamborghini boss confirms a roadster twin of the 740bhp Aventador Superveloce coupé.

    Lamborghini confirmed an open-top roadster version of the Aventador Superveloce at The Goodwood Festival of Speed. The roadster will sit alongside the Aventador LP750-4 SV coupé version, shown at Geneva motor show earlier this year. The Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV Roadster will be limited to 500 units, 100 less than the coupé variant.

    Lamborghini president and chief executive officer Stephan Winkelmann said, “The Aventador LP 50-4 Superveloce is the most pure, sports-oriented and emotional incarnation of a Lamborghini, and all 600 units have been sold, with first deliveries starting now. We will also produce a roadster version, which our dealers worldwide are now taking orders for.”

    The firm has not disclosed any performance figures for the roadster, but it is quite safe to assume that the figures will be close to that of the coupé variant, with perhaps a slightly slower 0-100kph time and an increased kerb weight due to the structural reinforcements that roadsters usually require.
    When revealed in Geneva, the coupé was described as the “most pure incarnation of a Lamborghini to date” by the company. It features an extreme look, a revamped chassis, a naturally aspirated V12 engine and an extensive use of carbon fibre to reduce weight by 50kg, over the standard 1,575kg Aventador LP700-4 coupé on which it is based. Carbon fibre has been used on the engine bay cover, rear wing, wing panels, interior door panels, bucket sports seats and air intakes, resulting in a reduction of weight.

    The mighty Aventador SV is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 that produces 740bhp at 8,400rpm, an increase from the standard Aventador’s 691bhp. Torque remains the same at 70.1kgm at 5,500rpm, but the engine now revs to 8,500rpm. The seven-speed automated manual gearbox is carried over from the standard car. The exhaust system is new and it features four central tips at the rear of the car. The four-wheel-drive system from Haldex is carried forward and distributes torque to the front and the rear. The Drive Select system offers three modes, Strada, Sport and Corsa.

    For more responsive steering and handling, the push-rod suspension system now incorporates new magnetic fluid-filled adaptive dampers designed to prevent brake drive and body roll. A new variable electromechanical steering system called Lamborghini Dynamic Steering is also offered on the Aventador SV.

    The Aventador SV’s large rear wing is the most prominent feature in its new look. It can be manually adjusted to three different positions. The wing contributes to increased aerodynamic efficiency and downforce, without increasing drag. The use of mesh is noticed at the rear to increase engine cooling, along with a large diffuser, predominantly made from carbonfibre. At the front, there is what Lamborghini calls a more “open” style — larger air intakes to improve cooling, a skirt and two front wings to provide improved aerodynamic efficiency and greater downforce.

    Lightweight alloy wheels — 20-inch at the front and 21-inch at the rear —finished in matt black paint feature on the SV.. The SV gets carbon-ceramic brakes as standard.

    The interiors feature a new woven carbon-fibre fabric, called Carbon Skin, for the seats and other parts of the cabin. This new Lamborghini-developed material is said to be the lightest fabric available. The instrument cluster in the Aventador is a TFT screen that adopts gearshift and G-force indicators.
