The SsangYong XLV concept has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, and closely previews a new production model which will allow the brand to compete in the fast-expanding compact SUV segment.

The XLV is a seven-seater, powered by a 1.6-litre diesel engine and an electric motor hooked up to a lithium ion battery.

At 4430mm in length, it is slightly longer than a Nissan Qashqai. In production, a shorter five-seat version will also be offered alongside the seven-seater. The seating is an innovative 2+2+2+1 arrangement, with the seventh seat able to slide between the second and third rows.

The clean, crisp look of the concept previews the next generation of SsangYong’s design language, which will be rolled out on future models. The XLV’s interior also has a much more upmarket look and feel than the firm’s current cars, and is expected to be extended to future production models.
