Chevrolet seems to have begun testing a production-spec model of the Beat Activ concept that made its debut at Auto Expo 2016. Spotted for the first time on Indian roads, the test car wore camouflage only at the front and rear, covering the bumpers, bonnet and tailgate.

While the front of the car was not seen in the pictures, the rear photographed showed a new bumper with an integrated number plate as seen on the Activ concept. The tail-lights, however, seem to be pre-production mock-ups. From the sides, the body looked near identical to the regular Beat minus the body cladding that the Activ concept came with.

The Beat Activ is a crossover-themed Beat model that comes with increased ground clearance and body cladding designed to cater to the trend of SUV-esque vehicles. The Activ is a move by Chevrolet to keep the interest running until it launches the new Beat which will be based on the current-generation model.

Chevrolet showcased an all-new Spark (Beat) last year in international markets though a company official ruled out the possibility of an India launch citing that it was for developed markets and would not do well in a cost-sensitive market like India. However, the source did reveal that components would be shared between the Indian model and its international sibling.

The carmaker also announced its plan to launch 10 new models in the next five years which includes the new Beat, an all-new Beat-based compact sedan and the new Cruze that was revealed in June last year.
