    BMW X1 seven-seater seen testing

After having launched the new X1 in international markets, BMW is now developing an extended wheelbase seven-seat version of the compact crossover.

The test mule spotted on international roads sported a similar design to the new X1 but with new bumpers, revised headlamps and tail-lights, a taller roof and a flatter belt-line.

Like its standard sibling, the seven-seater X1 will be based on Mini’s UKL front-wheel-drive platform and share its engines as well. This means that the seven-seater model will be available with a family of 2.0-litre diesel and petrol motors in varying states of tunes, and a possible four-wheel drive model as well.

BMW has also started testing the X2, the coupé sibling of the new X1. The X2 will also be built on the UKL platform, but will get sleeker styling as seen on the X4 and X6. The crossover coupé will also share its drivetrain with the X1.
