Best of 2016: Top car and SUV video reviews

It’s December and, with the New Year round the corner, we take a look back at some of our most popular car and SUV videos from the last 12 months. Through the course of the year, we have tested cars from the likes of the highly anticipated new Toyota Fortuner and Maruti Vitara Brezza, to cars such as the Mahindra KUV100 and Honda’s new BR-V.

Toyota Fortuner

The Fortuner, Toyota's traditional body-on-frame SUV, is probably the most sought after and admired SUV in India today. Big, burly and loaded with a fearsome reputation for toughness, it has remained a strong seller from the time it came to our market in 2009. Now, Toyota has chosen to up its game plan with a larger, more powerful and more upmarket second-generation model. So just what does the new Fortuner bring to the table? Watch our video to find out.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

The most anticipated SUV to launch this year, the Vitara Brezza, has been flying off the shelves at Maruti showrooms across the country – selling over 50,000 in its first seven months. So, just how good is Maruti’s first-ever compact SUV? We get behind the wheel in this video review.

Mahindra KUV100

Mahindra launched its smallest offering in the country in the form of the KUV100 – its first indigenously developed ‘car’. Ford Endeavour

Ford tasted a fair amount of success with the first-gen Endeavour. The concept of a big, brawny SUV worked in its favour initially, and it sold well for a bit. Tata Hexa

Image is everything, and Tata Motors – stuck with the image of being a budget carmaker – is determined to change this perception. With the success of the Tiago in the market, Tata is now targeting a more demanding set of premium buyers with the new Hexa. At one level, the Hexa is Tata Motors’ new flagship aimed squarely at the Mahindra XUV500 but, at a larger level, this model will be the acid test for the brand in the upper echelons of the market. For a global company like VW to make a car for just one market – the compact sedan segment is unique to India – isn’t always a priority. However, in a show of commitment to our market, VW has taken the plunge and stepped out of its comfort zone and plunged headlong into the value-driven compact sedan segment with the VW Ameo. Mahindra NuvoSport

On one hand, it’s a facelift of the discontinued Quanto – Mahindra’s first attempt at a compact SUV which came about by chopping the rear off the Xylo MPV. On the other hand, it has ditched the Xylo’s ladder-frame chassis and uses the newer, stiffer, lighter, hydroformed one from the Scorpio and TUV300 instead. So technically, it’s a new car that deserves its new name – NuvoSport. So just how good is it?

Hyundai Tucson

The all-new Tucson slots into the gap between the Creta and the Santa Fe to complete Hyundai’s SUV range and marks a return to India. The first-generation Tucson made its India debut in 2005, but failed to find success. Hyundai did not bother with the second generation. Now with the third generation Tucson coming to a market that is devouring SUVs, coupled with Hyundai’s growing brand appeal, the Korean company is confident of success.
