Beijing 2014: Wild Rubis-inspired DS SUV to be revealed

    DS SUV.

Beijing motor show will see the reveal of DS 6WR, a premium SUV inspired from Citroën's Wild Rubis concept. The Beijing motor show will go underway later this week.

The new DS 6WR will be the latest model under PSA’s new premium DS brand, and it promises a combination of “SUV versatility with DS sophistication and refinement”. DS’s first SUV will be fitted with a a choice of 1.6-litre four-cylinder engines producing 160 or 200bhp, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The DS 6WR represents the next step for the fledging stand-alone premium brand. PSA boss Carlos Tavares said, earlier this week, that the DS would be positioned apart from, both, Peugeot and Citroën. DS has earlier enjoyed success in China, and expansion into other markets might be on the cards.

The DS 6WR  will be 4550mm long, 1860mm wide and 1610mm tall, making it slightly longer, wider, but lower than the Peugeot 5008.

Features on the new DS SUV include Grip Control, which claims to optimise two-wheel-drive traction without the need for a four-wheel drive set-up.

The SUV is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, a range of chrome trims and daytime running lights that are arranged in a tuning fork layout. DS logos are embossed into the side of each light cluster.

The DS 6WR will be introduced in the Chinese market by the end of the year. Another locally built model might get unveiled in the coming months.

DS had launched the DS5 in September last year, and the DS 5LS in March 2014. The brand is also looking to expand its network of dealers in China’s biggest cities.
