Pune based two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto received a notice from the workers union at Chakan plant on 14th  April 2014, stating that if the management fails to fulfill their demands, they won't work from 28 April onwards. The union had also declared a 50 day strike earlier in June 2013 at the Chakan plant in Pune, which was later called off.

This time though, after reviewing the union's notice Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, released a strong statement on the 17th April 2014 saying that, “If the demands of the union were somewhat preposterous the last time in June 2013, they are entirely insane this time round. It seems to me that with some of the irresponsible union leaders & members, the management is guilty of sparing the rod and spoiling the child. We will be certain not to repeat that error, while taking all possible care to ensure the safety of the majority of our colleagues who wish to continue to work, as also, the continuity of production in order to protect the interests of our customers, dealers and suppliers.”
