Auto Expo 2014: Mercedes shows production GLA-class SUV

Having seen a 32 percent growth in sales last year, Mercedes had announced 2014 as the ‘Year of Excellence’ when it launched the new S-class at the beginning of the year. And the company is keeping the momentum going with the unveiling of the GLA-class in India today. The compact SUV is based on the front-wheel-drive MFA-platform that also underpins the A- and B-class. The SUV is comparable in size to the Audi Q3 and is expected to go on sale in India next year.

Also sharing space with it, was the CLA 45 AMG, the saloon based on the A-class. Powering this brute is a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 360bhp. This makes the CLA 45 AMG the most powerful four-cylinder engine in the world, yet it’s the most efficient in its class.

Mercedes also expanded its ML-class range with the launch of the special-protection version. Called the M-Guard, it meets the VR4 protection level and is fully bullet proof and was launched at the price of Rs 2.49 crore.

Apart from these, Mercedes also showcased its current range of cars including the newly launched S-class and SLK 55 AMG.
