Audi clocks sales of over 10,000 cars in FY 2013-14

Audi had also managed to sell over 10,000 units across the last calendar year, 2013.

Luxury carmaker Audi, after recently taking the top spot in the luxury segment in India, has now reached another milestone. The manufacturer has announced that it registered sales of 10,126 cars across the last financial year, becoming the first luxury carmaker in India to sell over 10,000 across a fiscal.

Audi had also managed to sell over 10,000 units across the last calendar year, 2013. The carmaker also clocked best sales in March 2014 (1,404 units) and across the first quarter of this year (2,740 units).

Audi is the only luxury manufacturer that doesn't have a hatchback on offer in India to rival BMW's 1-series, Mercedes-Benz's A-class or Volvo's V40. That's because the carmaker is looking to take competition a step further by introducing the Audi A3 sedan as the most affordable Audi in India this year.

Given the perception of Indian car buyers viewing sedans as a more premium buy, especially in the luxury segment, the new entry-level model could play a crucial role in maintaining the company's current momentum.
