Audi A3 is World Car of the Year 2014

Audi A3 has been announced as the World Car of the Year at the New York Motor Show.  The Audi A3 beat Mazda3 and BMW 4 Series to clinch the title. The Audi A3 was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in February and this award winning car is expected to join Audi’s range in India soon. Audi has chosen to capitalize on the Indian consumers’ preference for this sedan’s body. The A3 has the looks of a smaller A4, and the sedan should account for a good percentage of sales for Audi India. Since it's quite compact, it's not the most spacious of cars for the money, but like every Audi, the A3's cabin is built with high-quality materials. The Audi A3 sedan will be available with a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Audi’s S-tronic dual-clutch transmission will be standard, although this car won't use Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system – all versions of the Audi A3 sedan will be offered as a front-wheel-drive car only.

Other awards given out were World Green Car of the Year, to the BMW i3, the i3 is also the World Car Design of the Year.  The BMW i3 was competing against the Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron, Audi E-Gas and the Volkswagen XL1 for the World Green Car of the Year award. In the design category BMW i3’s competitors were Mazda3 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Porsche 911 GT3 was named World Performance Car of the Year, and The Mercedes-Benz S-Class was named World Luxury Car of the Year. The Mercedes S-Class beat Bentley Flying Spur and the Land Rower Range Rover Sport, while the Porsche 911 GT3 won against the Corvette Stingray and the Ferrari Speciale. Nominations for the World Car awards were announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
