Ampere recently launched the Nexus electric scooter, their most premium offering to date. Given its price and features, here’s how the two-wheeler stacks up against its competitors. We had done a similar comparison with the Ather Rizta and the top variant of all its rivals. We’ll be doing the same thing now.

The Ampere Nexus packs in the smallest battery in this company however, despite that fact the Nexus has a higher certified range than most of its rivals.

Surprisingly the Nexus has one of the highest claimed top speeds of 93kph, which is second only to the Ola's S1 Pro 120kph top speed. The Nexus also has the fastest charging time among the lot with just 3 hours and 22 minutes with the standard 15 amp charger. Ampere also sells a fast charger which it claims can charge the Nexus in roughly 2.5 hours.

The Nexus boasts of the lowest seat height here despite having the highest ground clearance here. While most others are using a monoshock at the rear, Ampere and TVS are the only ones sticking to twin shock absorbers. The underseat storage on the Nexus is one of the lowest in this test and it comes second only to the Bajaj Chetak which sits at an even lower 21 litres.

Meanwhile the Ather Rizta and the Ola S1 Pro have the highest at 34 litres which is 10 litres more than what you would find on the Nexus.

Ampere Nexus vs rivals: features

The Nexus comes equipped with a 6.2 inch LCD display for the lower ES variant and a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display for the more premium ST variant. Both displays can be controlled using the handlebar mounted switchgear and support Bluetooth connectivity. The Nexus also comes with a full LED light setup. Additionally, the Nexus comes equipped with three riding modes and even a hill hold assist feature for added convenience.

While the Nexus is far from a barebones machine, some of its rivals do offer more features in the form of traction control, removable batteries and a rear disc brake.

It is worth noting that the Ampere Nexus (or any other product in the Ampere lineup) does not qualify for the EV subsidy. Despite that fact, the Ampere Nexus is the most affordable product in this company - along with the Ather Rizta. Just how many people choose to buy a premium EV from Ampere over these other established brands remains to be seen.
