Chevrolet stops selling Sail saloon and hatch

According to our sources, General Motors India has asked its dealers to stop selling the diesel variants of the Sail saloon and Sail hatchback, suspecting problems with the 1.3-litre diesel engine used in these cars.

GM has also asked dealers to stop sales of the BSIII variant of the Tavera. This may also lead to a product recall of all diesel models of the Sail saloon and Sail hatchback manufactured over a certain period.

The voluntary recall policy, as adopted by the Indian auto industry in July last year, states that companies need to inform the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the government and customers about any fault in its products, which may require a recall.

GM India, for now, did not say if a recall of the cars was likely. P Balendran, vice president, GM India, said, “We will come back to you with an update after thorough investigation in the coming days.”
