GM's Expo display to include Sail saloon and hatch , Wuling MPV, facelifted Captiva, Tavera and WTCC Cruze

Chevrolet Sail Hatch

A new wave of Chevrolets is around the corner and the first one coming to our shores is the Sail hatchback. Jointly developed by GM China and SAIC, the Sail will have its India premiere at the Expo with a launch around April. It is well-proportioned, smartly styled and looks every bit a modern Chevy. Powering the Sail will most likely be the 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Beat which develops 79bhp, and the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet within a year of its launch. This could well be your next small car so make sure you get a good look.

The MPV war is heating up and GM’s entry into the ring will be based on Chinese partner Wuling-SAIC’s
CN-100 model, but with Chevrolet badging. Styling isn’t the MPV’s talking point but its versatility could be its trump card. It’s likely to be sold in a seven-seat configuration with folding second and third-row seats that can be removed altogether for a completely flat loading bay. The CN-100 will get a 1.4-litre, 102bhp petrol engine (that it will share with the Sail saloon coming around September) and the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel.

GM will also launch the facelifted Chevrolet Captiva at the Expo. The SUV has a larger 2.2-litre diesel unit that now develops more power (184bhp) and has the much needed macho styling its predecessor lacked. An updated Tavera will be displayed with an all-new BSIV-compliant diesel engine sourced from ICML (Sonalika). This turbocharged, intercooled diesel motor develops a much higher 100bhp – that’s 20bhp more than the current unit.

Too bland for your liking? Get your fix from the WTCC Cruze parked in the same hall. First seen at the Autocar Performance Show in Mumbai in November 2011, the championship-winning race car boasts specs like 285bhp from a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor, 64mm throttle body plenum with internal trumpets, Yokohama racing slicks, the works!
