New versions of old cars seems to be the underlying theme of the November 2014 issue of Autocar India, starting with Honda’s new Jazz, which is launching next year, and which we’ve driven this month. We’ve also sampled the latest versions of the Maruti Alto K10, the Fiat 500, the VW Passat, the Mini Cooper S, the VW Vento and the Skoda Rapid. It’s not all old dogs with new tricks however, as we’ve also got our usual mix of news, two-wheelers, motorsport, road tests and features. Read on to find out what’s in store:

New Honda Jazz – The first Jazz, though immensely capable, wasn’t too successful in India thanks to its high sticker price and lack of a diesel engine. The second generation will fix both of those issues when it goes on sale next year. But you don’t have to wait until then to know what it’s like to drive as we’ve gotten behind the wheel of the all-new Honda Jazz this month.

Abarth 595 Competizione – Six years ago, Fiat had launched the cute little 500 with its ubiquitous 1.3-litre Multijet engine, and it didn’t really take off. It’s soon to be back again, but this time it’s packing a lot more attitude, thanks to Fiat’s in-house tuning company, Abarth. We spend some exclusive time driving this hot little hatch on Indian roads.

New Maruti Alto K10 – For years now, the Alto has been a bestseller for Maruti, and while the new car was thus far available with only the 800cc engine, as expected, Maruti has also launched a new K10 version as well. It gets plenty of design tweaks inside and out to set it apart from its 800cc sibling, and it even gets an AMT gearbox, making it the world's cheapest automatic car.

New Volkswagen Passat – The New Passat has grown up, and offers more space, tech and luxury than ever before. In fact, this time, it’s going straight after the likes of the A4, 3-series and C-class. Does it have what it takes to convince Indian buyers to look past its ‘mainstream’ badge and spend luxury car money on it?

New Mahindra Scorpio – Last issue we gave you our first impressions of the brand new Scorpio. Now, we’ve put it through our thorough road test to find out what the improvements over the previous generation really are. We also pit it against its age-old rival, the Tata Safari Storme, just to keep it honest.

Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG – Mercedes has only just launched its compact SUV contender – the GLA-class – in India, but it’s already got the fire-breathing AMG version waiting in the wings. Could this 355bhp compact crossover be the most practical and everyday useable AMG car we’ve sampled yet? Read our first drive report to find out.

Volkswagen Vento TDI DSG vs Skoda Rapid TDI DSG – The Vento and the Rapid are essentially the same car, so choosing one over the other is, as you can imagine, not very easy. What’s more, both have just been given a new diesel engine mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox. We park them side by side to weigh the pros and cons.

Benelli BN 302 – The Italian motorcycle manufacturer has entered the Indian market with some interesting offerings, and the range spans from lightweight to middleweight to litre-class. We take a look at one of the offerings from the Benelli stable.
